Re: Dealing with Defiance: 9 ways to handle it
by elfins
All I can say is, yeah, right. I've tried everything listed in these responses at various times and for varying lengths of time and have to say that nothing has worked! It was better before preschool. Once he entered the real world though, all bets were off. My son knows that he really doesn't have to do anything and he will still get up in the morning with a place to live, food, clothing, hot and cold running water, etc., and he doesn't really have to do anything, therefore, he doesn't care to. In the end, his needs will be met, so who cares? It is a rather intelligent response, after all, but it doesn't get us very far. Me, I'm exhausted, haven't had any real parenting help for these first 9 years and there isn't any in sight. I have to keep up my parental responsibilities, but am losing hope for anything else. At 45, I hope there is something left to enjoy if the two of us make it through this. Good luck, all.
